My Review

“Moon” is science fiction story about a man experiencing problems as his three-year work contract on a mining colony on the moon draws to a close. The predictable and slow-moving film was put together by first-time director Duncan Jones, and poorly written by Nathan Parker. It bombed at the box office for Sony Pictures, Stage 6 Films, and the other production companies involved.

The bright side of the “Moon” is the performances, especially Sam Rockwell as Sam Bell, alone on the Earth’s closest heavenly body. Kevin Spacey supplied the voice of Gerty the Robot, done in the style of Hal of “2001: A Space Odyssey.” The supporting cast includes Dominique McElligott, Kay Scodelario, Benedict Wong, Matt Berry, Malcolm Stewart, and Robin Chalk.

The cinematography by Gary Shaw is simply out of this world. Producers Stuart Fenegan and Trudie Styler (wife of Sting) of Stage 6 Films arranged the filming at Shepperton Studios in London. The shots were so realistic that viewers would think they were actually on the “Moon.”
