My Review

The Best Picture of 2009 is…..”The Hurt Locker.” This compelling drama about three soldiers who disarm bombs in the Iraq War was very well directed by Kathryn Bigelow (“Point Break” 1991), who became the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar. It also won four more Oscars, including Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Original Screenplay by Mark Boal, who drew upon his experience as an embedded reporter with a U. S. Army EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team for two weeks in 2004.

Top-rate performances by actors filled the movie, especially Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty as the Delta Force three who have to deal with tense situations all day long. Other cast members include Guy Pearce, Christian Camargo, David Morse, Ralph Fiennes, Evangeline Lilly, Malcolm Barrett, Sam Spruell, and Suhail Dabbach. “The Hurt Locker” was a success at the box office for producers Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, Voltage Pictures, and Grosvenor Park Media.
