My Review

“Eat Pray Love” is a typical Julia Roberts vehicle where she plays an America woman embarking on world travels after she goes through a painful divorce. Roberts delivers her usual charismatic performance, but with shallow material from a screenplay adapted from a 2006 book of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert. Director Ryan Murphy, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Salt, did well with slick production values to make this at least a watchable film.

The supporting cast behind Julia Roberts includes Billy Crudup, James Franco, Viola Davis, Tuva Novotny, Luca Argentero, Javier Bardem, Christine Hakim, Sophie Thompson, Arlene Tur, among others. Great cinematography by Robert Richardson in such locales as Italy, India, Indonesia, and New York City. “Eat Pray Love” was a hit at the box office for producer Brad Pitt, Plan B Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
