My Review

“Leap Year” is a very predictable and formulaic romantic comedy starring Amy Adams as a woman who travels from Boston to Dublin to propose marriage to her commitment-shy boyfriend, based on the Irish tradition that men cannot refuse this offer on Leap Day. If it takes this long to explain it, then the film is probably not very entertaining.

Director Anand Tucker (“Shopgirl” 2005) and screenwriters Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan no doubt thought they were doing a good job while putting this project together. Well, they did not, and wasted good performances by Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, John Lithgow, Adam Scott, Kaitlin Olson, Noel O’Donovan, Tony Rohr, and Pat Laffan.

Maybe it’s a good idea to leap over “Leap Year,” not a great film from Spyglass Entertainment and Universal Pictures. It barely broke even financially in theatrical release.
