“Bernie” is a black-comedy crime drama about a young man befriending an elderly female millionaire, whose sudden disappearance raises many questions. Jack Black delivers what is probably the best performance of his career in the title role, with Shirley MacLaine as his friend and Matthew McConaughey as the district attorney. Producer-director-screenwriter Richard Linklater did a fine job on this drama, holding everyone’s attention for 104 minutes of the film’ duration. Skip Hollandsworth helped Linklater pen the excellent script, which is based on a true story out of east Texas in 1996.
Gabriel Luna, Brandon Smith, and Rick Dial are some co-stars of the show. The watchable “Bernie” was not a big success at the box office for Castle Rock Entertainment and Mandalay Pictures, but is a great view on DVD.
