My Review

Walt Disney Pictures finally produced a movie featuring “The Muppets,” after acquiring them in 2004, with a story that begins in Smallville, USA, when Gary and his girl friend Mary (Jason Segal and Amy Adams) decide to go to Hollywood to visit the Muppet Theater. Upon arrival in Tinseltown, they discover the theater to be in a state of disrepair. To make matters worse, a villain wants to buy it to drill for oil. Kermit the Frog informs Gary and Mary that they must raise ten million dollars to save the theater, and they go about reuniting the Muppet gang to do just that. The zaniness proceeds from there.

Director James Bobin, in his theatrical film directorial debut, did a good job at keeping the film organized and the human and muppet cast working together. He had a very entertaining and well-written screenplay by Jason Segal and Nicholas Stoller to work with. “The Muppets” was a success at the box office for Mandeville Films and Walt Disney Pictures, winning one Academy Award for Best Original Song for Bret McKenzie’s song “Man or Muppet.”

The supporting cast behind Jason Segal and Amy Adams includes Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Zach Galifianakis, Jim Parsons, Ken Jeong, Alan Arkin, Bill Cobbs, Eddie Pepitone, Kristen Schaal, Donald Glover, Sarah Silverman. Muppet performers include Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, Matt Vogel, and Peter Linz. There are cameo appearances by Jack Black, Emily Blunt, James Carville, Whoopi Goldberg, Selena Gomez, Neil Patrick Harris, Judd Hirsch, John Krasinski, and Mickey Rooney.
