My Review

Good acting, a well written script, and loads of suspense combine to make director Steven Soderbergh’s latest film “Contagion” quite a drama to watch. The story tells of a virus that spreads rapidly around the globe via personal contact. Hundreds of thousands are infected in a matter of days, with no cure in sight. Authorities in many nations scramble to find a cure.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who seems to be out of “highbrow” pictures to appear in lately, stars as the first person on earth to be infected and to die from the virus. Matt Damon plays her husband who, for some unexplained reason, is immune to the dreaded flu-like illness. Lawrence Fishburne and Kate Winslet star as doctors in charge of investigating the problem. Other cast members include Enrico Colantani, Bryan Cranston, Jude Law, Elliot Gould, Chin Han, Jennifer Ehle, Marion Cotillard, John Hawkes, and Josie Ho.

Medical experts interviewed in the media recently have stated that “Contagion” presents a very plausible scenario. Producer Michael Shamberg, director Steven Soderbergh (“Traffic” 2000), and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns apparently did their homework, as this 2011 film seems to foretell COVID19, the global corona virus pandemic of 2019.
