My Review

“Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol” is probably the best of the lot so far in Tom Cruise’s modern interpretation of the television series that ran on CBS from 1966-1973. Ethan Hunt and his team attempt to track down a terrorist who has acquired Russian nuclear launch codes, planning to strike America. The heavy spy drama proceeds from there with expert direction by Brad Bird (“The Incredibles” 2004) and a lean screenplay by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec.

The supporting cast includes Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Paula Patton as his team members, Michael Nyqvist as the aforementioned terrorist, Vladimir Mashkov, Lea Seydoux, Josh Holloway, and Tom Wilkinson, Ving Rhames, and Michelle Monaghan in uncredited roles.

“Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol” is the fourth in the “M.I.” series, after its predecessors in 1996, 2000, and 2006. It was a big hit at the box office for producers J. J. Abrams and Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures, with more sequels to come in 2015, 2018, 2023, and 2024.
