My Review

“Hugo” is an unusual story of an orphan boy living in a train station with some inventions left to him by his father. Director Martin Scorsese (“Goodfellas” 1990) and screenwriter Josh Logan made this engrossing movie with great production values, adapted from the 2007 children’s book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick.

The title role was well played by Asa Butterfield, with a supporting cast that includes Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law, Helen McCrory, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Christopher Lee. “Hugo” was a flop at the box office, unfortunately for producers Martin Scorsese and Johnny Depp and Paramount Pictures.
