My Review

Something old (Harrison Ford), something new (Daniel Craig), something borrowed (plots and storylines), and something blue (the skies of New Mexico) are all featured in this marriage of two film genres, “Cowboys & Aliens.”

Producers Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard have created a movie with a thin plot and a storyline with more holes than a Swiss cheese. It starts in 1873’s New Mexico Territory with a man named Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) appearing out of nowhere with no memory, but possessing a wrist bracelet with enough firepower to shoot down alien space ships. This he does, after stumbling into town controlled by Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), a powerful cattleman.

Director Jon Favreau (“The Break-Up” 2006) and screenwriters Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, David Lindelof, Mark Fergus, and Hank Ostby do manage to put half-way decent production values in the film to make it mildly watchable. However, it did not have enough credibility with movie audiences to make them attend the film in theaters in great numbers in the summer of 2011, as it was a box office bomb for DreamWorks Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, and Universal Pictures.

Co-stars with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in “Cowboys & Aliens” include Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Noah Ringer, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Keith Carradine, Adam Beach, Abigail Spencer, Ana de la Reguera, Buck Taylor, Walton Goggins, Julio Cedillo, David O’Hara, Toby Huss, and Wyatt Russell, son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
