My Review

With the wave of a magic want, the epic Harry Potter movie series has finally ended. The global weekend box office for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” was $483 million, bringing the total income for the eight films at about $9.6 billion, the fourth highest grossing film franchise (after the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man, and Star Wars).

The ten years and eight films have always been long on special effects and short on original story lines. This one is no exception, with the boredom continuing right to the end with Daniel Radcliffe as Harry and Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as his friends battling the usual gang of ghouls.

The stars of this last show, also based on J. K. Rowling’s wildly popular series of novels, includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, John Hurt, Gary Oldman, Alan Richman, Maggie Smith, Julie Walters, and Ciaran Hands.

It was nominated for three Oscars: Best Art Direction, Best Makeup, and Best Visual Effects. No nominations for director David Yates or screenwriter Steve Kloves. I guess they don’t care as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” brought in loads of cash for producers David Heyman and J. K. Rowling, Heyday Films, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
