Bloody violence and gore rule the day in “Dredd,” a remake of 1995’s “Judge Dredd” and also based on the comic book of the same name. Director Pete Travis (“Vantage Point” 2008) and producer-screenwriter Alex Garland came up with a terrible story about a dystopic North America after a nuclear war that is dry and uninteresting.
The performances are ordinary and almost not worth mentioning. The cast is headed by Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, who seemed to be doing a bad Clint Eastwood imitation throughout the entire film. Others include Olivia Thirlby, Wood Harris, Lena Headey, Domhnall Gleeson, Frances Chouler, and Langley Kirkwood. “Dredd” is a British-South African production that was a big flop at the box office.
