“Lockout” is a science fiction action movie about a man who has been convicted of a crime he did not commit, and offered a full pardon, if he can rescue the U. S. President’s daughter from a prison in orbit around the Earth by the convicts held there.
Directors Stephen Saint Leger and James Mather, who wrote the screenplay with Luc Besson, put together a decent, if not exactly original, drama that holds the viewer’s attention for 95 minutes. In 2015, director John Carpenter sued the producers alleging that “Lockout” was plagiarized from his films “Escape From New York” (1981) and “Escape From L. A.” (1996). He won with a cash settlement.
The stars of the show are Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Vincent Regan, Joe Gilgun, Lennie James, Tim Plester, Anne-Solenne Hatte, and Peter Stormare. “Lockout” barely made money at the box office for the French production companies backing this project, including EuropaCorp, Canal+, and Cine+.
