My Review
Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a horrifying new AI weapon that could destroy the world if it falls into the wrong hands. The part they need to find is half of a fancy key to the weapon, or else, in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” Director-screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (“Jack Reacher” 2012) and producer-star Tom Cruise have imbued this exciting thriller with the highest quality production values, so that the nearly three hour film moves by very quickly.
The supporting cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Frederick Schmidt, and Cary Elwes as the Director of National Intelligence.
The movie was filmed in Rome, Venice, London, Swiss Alps, and a few other spots. There are numerous chase scenes, such as the thriller around Rome near the Colassium and then down the Spanish Steps, and a humdinger of a railroad chase in the Alps with an exploding bridge. Industrial Light & Magic helped out with the visual effects. We also need to commend the fantastic cinematography by Fraser Taggert and an excellent musical score by Lorne Balfe.
McQuarrie, who co-wrote the screenplay with Erik Jendresen, kept the film moving at an even pace for 163 minutes. “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is a very watchable motion picture, quite successful at the box office for TC Productions and Paramount Pictures. “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” is scheduled to be released in June of 2024.
