“Zero Dark Thirty” is an historical drama that tells the story of the U. S. government’s ten year search for Osama bin Laden, told through the eyes of Maya Harris, a CIA analyst tasked with being in charge of the hunt for the al-Qaeda leader. Director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal, the team that brought us the Best Picture of 2008, “The Hurt Locker,” did a marvelous job on this movie that has high production values of every kind and in every category.
Jessica Chastain delivered a riveting performance in the lead role of Maya Harris, not the real name of the CIA employee who drove the investigation for a decade. Chastain was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, one of five nominations for “Zero Dark Thirty.” (The one win was for Best Sound Editing, and nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Actress.)
The supporting cast includes Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Kyle Chandler, Harold Perrineau, Edgar Ramirez, Jeremy Strong, Scott Adkins, Chris Pratt, and James Gandolfini as The CIA Director. The very watchable masterpiece “Zero Dark Thirty” was successful at the box office for Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures.
