My Review

Director Rob Reiner (“The Princess Bride” 1987) put together a nice little film called “The Magic of Belle Isle.” This gentle and genial tale is about a famous western novelist struggling to cope with the death of his wife and the loss of his writing creativity. A summer vacation in the upstate New York lakeside town of Belle Isle helps to revive his mood and fortunes.

Morgan Freeman delivers the goods in his inimitable style in the lead role. He has great chemistry with his leading lady, the beautiful and talented Virginia Madsen. The supporting cast is populated by Madeline Carroll, Emma Fuhrmann, Nicolette Pierini, Kenan Thompson, Kevin Pollack, Fred Willard, Boyd Holbrook, Ash Christian, and Jessica Hecht.

“The Magic of Belle Isle,” co-produced, directed, and co-written by Rob Reiner, was not a success at the box office for Castle Rock Entertainment, Revelations Entertainment, Voltage Pictures, and Magnolia Pictures, but a great view on DVD.
