Sony Pictures Animation serves up some delicious family entertainment in “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.” As in the original film of 2009, the food machine again spins out of control, this time producing food-animal hybrids that threatens the entire world. There are some 39 Foodimals, from Apple-piethons to Fruit Cockatiels to Wildabeets.
The clever screenplay was written by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Erica Rivinoja. They produced lots of action for the actors to vocalize, including Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Benjamin Bratt, Terry Crews, Will Forte, Kristen Schaal, Cody Cameron, Khamani Griffin, and Al Roker, on a break from his day job as weather anchor on NBC’s “Today Show.”
Producer Pam Marsden and directors Cody Cameron (“Open Season 3” 2010) and Kris Pearn (in his first directorial position) have created an amusing and engaging film, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” a great feast that was a big success at the box office for Sony Pictures Animation, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
