My Review

“Pain & Gain” is an unlikely but true story of three bodybuilder friends who decide to get rich by kidnapping a wealthy businessman and cash in on his bank accounts and property. Director Michael Bay uses his considerable action-adventure skills from the “Transformers” series to craft this exciting and dicey motion picture.

Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie star as the trio who scheme and plot to get their hands on the fortune of their hostage Victor Kershaw, played by Tony Shalhoub, something different for the “Monk” star. Many things go right and wrong with their plans, but justice wins out in the end. Some of this is due to the efforts of Detective Ed DuBois, a good role for veteran actor Ed Harris. The supporting cast includes Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson, Ken Jeong, Bar Paly, Michael Rispoli, Tony Plana, Emily Rutherford, and Peter Storemare.

The brilliant screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely is based on a series of magazine articles and later book of the same name by Pete Collins. “Pain & Gain” is a fun & watchable & very unpredictable ride at the picture show courtesy of Paramount Pictures.
