“Killing Kennedy” is a made-for-television film examining the administration of President John F. Kennedy and his assassination in 1963. It is a faithful adaptation of Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s 2012 book of the same name. The teleplay was written by Kelly Masterson and expertly directed by Nelson McCormick, who has been at the helm of tv shows like “NYPD Blue,” “Southland,” and “The West Wing.”
The actors performed well, especially considering that the principals are people we have been familiar with over the years. They include Rob Lowe as President Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald, Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, Ginnifer Goodwin as Jackie Kennedy, Jack Noseworthy as Robert Kennedy, Casey Siemaszko as Jack Ruby, and Francis Guinan as Lyndon Johnson.
Bill O’Reilly has some excellent analysis of the Kennedy years. The first half has JFK not in charge, allowing others (like his father & brother) to make decisions, such as the disastrous attempted Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. The second half of his presidency shows him taking charge of the decision-making process, turning things around.
O’Reilly concluded that Oswald was the lone gunman, “not much more than that.” “Killing Kennedy” aired on the National Geographic Channel on Nov. 10, 2013.
