My Review

The latest of the “Hunger Games” series is out and the verdict is in: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I” is the most exciting yet in the movie franchise based on the novels by Suzanne Collins. The story continues to follow Katniss Everdeen, the hero of two Hunger Games who is now the symbol of a continent-wide rebellion against the Capitol.

The screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig provides the viewers with tons of action. Tight direction by Francis Lawrence (“I am Legend” 2007) keeps the two hours and three minutes moving rapidly.

Jennifer Lawrence gives the audience a very intense and credible performance in her third time around as Katniss. Newcomer Julianne Moore makes a good impression as President Alma Coin of District 13. Coin is trying to unite all districts of Panem in an effort to unseat the tyrannical President Coriolanus Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, who seems to resemble 19th Century U. S. President William Henry Harrison.

Other actors making vital contributions include Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Dormer, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Willow Shields, Mahershala Ali, Wes Chatham, Patina Miller, and Evan Ross. All are part of the excitement of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I,” a success at the box office for Lionsgate.
