My Review

At first glance, “The Maze Runner” appears as another “youth revolts against authority” picture. However, good direction by Wes Ball, in his first job at the helm of a big screen project, and a well-written screenplay by Noah Oppenheim, Grant Pierre Myers, and T. S. Nowlin, make this an exciting movie to watch.

“The Maze Runner” was adapted from a 2009 dystopian science fiction novel of the same name by James Dashner, telling the story of a sixteen year old named Thomas who awakens in an old elevator that delivers him to the middle of a complex maze. The area is populated by a group of boys trying to figure their way out of the confusing and constantly changing labyrinth.

The cast is headed by Dylan O’Brien, a talented young actor who plays Thomas. The supporting cast includes Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Ami Ameen, Ki Hong Lee, Blake Cooper, Dexter Darden, Jacob Latimore, Chris Sheffield, Joe Adler, Don McManus, and Patricia Clarkson as Ava Paige.

“The Maze Runner” was very successful at the box office for 20th Century Fox, and would spawn two sequels to be released in 2015 and 2018.
