My Review

The amazing story of Louis Zamperini is told in Universal Pictures’ “Unbroken.” Producer-director Angelina Jolie (“A Place in Time” 2007) does an outstanding job of bringing to the big screen the life experiences of a man who ran in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin (coming it 8th), survives 47 days at sea when his plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean, and is captured by the Japanese and spends two years in their prison camp.

Jolie cast excellent actors for “Unbroken,” especially Jack O’Connell as Louis Zamperini. The supporting cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, Jai Courtney, Luke Treadaway, Spencer Lofranco, Jordan Patrick Smith, John Magaro, Alex Russell, and Vincenzo Amato.

The excellent screenplay was penned by Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Richard LaGravenese, and William Nicholson. It was adapted from the 2010 biography of the same name by Laura Hillenbrand. The suspense-filled “Unbroken” was a smash hit in theatrical release for Angelina Jolie and Universal Pictures.
