Another “Robocop” remake draws nothing but yawns from critics and the movie-going public alike. This fourth version from Brazilian director Jose Padilha (“Elite Squad” 2007) is slicker and has better FX, but is still the same old story we have seen before in 1987, 1990 and 1993.
The screenplay by Joshua Zetumer gives nothing but pablum for the cast to recite. Joel Kinnaman is the lucky guy this time as the cop who is injured and transformed into the cyborg Robo Cop. Co-stars include Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earl Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Barushel, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. “Robocop” was translated into a big flop at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures.
