“Beast” is an exciting action horror film where Idris Elba plays a man who takes his two daughters “on safari” to a South African game reserve, only to find themselves fighting for survival when they are hunted down by a ferocious man-eating lion. Although something like this is not likely to happen in real life, Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (“Everest” 2015) and screenwriter Ryan Engle keep the on-screen situation realistic enough to make it believable.
Great acting by the cast which includes Idris Elba, Iyana Halley and Leah Sava Jeffries as his two daughters, and Sharlto Copley as the “wildlife biologist” who is their tour guide. The large and horrifying lion was completely animated digitally; it was extremely life-like. Great job by the FX people! “Beast” was only modestly successful at the box office for Universal Pictures.
