My Review

“The Wave” is an well produced Norwegian language disaster film about rock slides causing a tidal wave that threaten a small tourist town in one of the nation’s famous fjords. The screenplay by John Kare Raoke and Harald Rosenlow-Eeg is really textbook disaster storyline from the 1970’s American genre, but capable direction by Roar Uthaug make the whole picture very watchable, even in Norwegian with English subtitiles.

“Bolgen” (“The Wave” in Norwegian) stars Kirstoffer Joner in the lead role as a scientist who notices that something is wrong in the monitoring of the local mountains. He begins a rescue of his family from the ensuing mess. Co-stars include Ane Dahl Torp as his wife, Jonas Hoff Oftebro and Edith Hoogenrud-Sande as his children, and Mette Horn, Firdtjov Sadeim, Herman Bernhoft, Arthur Berning, and Laila Goody as his co-workers. “The Wave” from Film Vast was a moderate success in theatrical release.
