My Review

“Vacation” is a mediocre remake of the 1983 comedy film, complete with stupid adults, filthy-mouthed children, and an excessive amount of f-bombs. There are some genuinely funny moments in the midst of the ridiculousness from first time directors-screenwriters Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The story has been updated to have Rusty Griswold, son of Clark and Ellen, going, of course, on vacation.

The cast is headed by Ed Helms and Christina Applegate as the Griswold’s, and Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins playing their sons. Others include Leslie Mann, Chris Hemsworth, Michael Pena, Tim Heidecker, Kaitlin Olson, Nick Kroll, Charlie Day, Hannah Davis, Keegan-Michael Key, Regina Hall, and Elizabeth Gillies. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reappear as Clark and Ellen Griswold, now owners of a bed and breakfast.

View “Vacation” at your own risk, a moderate hit at the box office for Warner Bros. Pictures, probably the final of the five “Vacation” films.
