Producer-director-screenwriter Warren Beatty put together a romantic comedy-drama movie that was a box office bomb in November, 2016, but is actually a watchable movie on DVD these days. Besides a lucid screenplay and outstanding production values, there are some very strong performances by the actors.
Beatty himself portrays billionaire Howard Hughes during his movie mogul days at RKO. His subtle offering heads a large all-star cast that includes his wife Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick, Lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins), Alden Ehrenreich, Candice Bergen, Alec Baldwin, Dabney Coleman, Martin Sheen, Paul Sorvino, Ed Harris, Amy Madigan, Oliver Platt, Taissa Farmiga, Paul Schneider, and Ron Perkins.
Beatty and 20th Century Fox lost a fortune at the box office on the watchable flop “Rules Don’t Apply.”
