My Review

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” is an entirely predictable sequel to the 2002 movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” The only one slimmed down is the star, Nia Vardalos, who not only wrote the screenplay but also managed to reunite the entire cast from the original. Her friends Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson produced the project.

The new kid on the block is Elena Kampouris, who plays Vardalos’ and John Corbett’s daughter. She seems to spend most of her screen time wincing and frowning at her Greek relatives’ eccentric behavior. That, accompanied by the mediocre dialogue, began to get on our nerves long before the halfway point in the movie. Pass the baklava!

Returning cast includes Michael Constantine, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Louis Mandylor, Bess Meisler, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, Stavroula Logothettis, Gerry Mendicino, Ian Gomez, and Rob Riggle. John Stamos and Rita Wilson do turns as friends of the family in cameos.

Kirk Jones (“Nanny McPhee” 2005) performed the directorial duties for Vardalos and the Hanks, helping the sluggish “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” make a profit in theatrical release for Universal Pictures.
