My Review

Television director Adam Nimoy (“Star Trek: The Next Generation,” among others) put together an interesting documentary about his father Leonard Nimoy. “For the Love of Spock” takes a comprehensive look at the entire life of Nimoy from childhood to his taking on his signature role of “Star Trek’s” Mr. Spock to later roles. The film was released about a year after he passed away in February, 2015, at the age of 83.

Among the celebrities interviewed are William Shatner, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, George Takai, Catherine Hicks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, J. J. Abrams, and Jason Alexander, who is a big “Trekkie” in real life and did appear in an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” in 1999.

Bill Shatner recalled how he went to Gene Roddenberry about concerns that the Spock character was becoming more popular than his own Captain James T. Kirk. Roddenberry “wisely replied” that Spock’s wide-spread acceptance would only enhance the show and Kirk’s general approval.

Every fan of “Star Trek” should enjoy the absorbing and informative 111 minute documentary film “For the Love of Spock” from 455 Films.
