My Review

Michael Keaton gives the definitive performance as Ray Kroc, “The Founder” of the wildly successful McDonalds Corporation. Kroc actually created the McDonald’s fast food chain, and the film vividly depicts how he forced out the original founders, the McDonald brothers of San Bernardino, California. Director John Lee Hancock did well at the helm of this engrossing biopic, as good a job as he did directing “Saving Mr. Banks,” the 2013 story of Walt Disney’s “Mary Poppins” production. The well written screenplay was penned by Robert D. Stiegel.

The supporting cast is indeed a very talented group, including Nick Offerman and John Carroll as the McDonalds brothers, Laura Dern as Kroc’s first wife Ethel, Linda Cardellini as Kroc’s second wife Joan, Ric Reitz as a Los Angeles Times reporter, and Patrick Wilson, B. J. Novak, Afemo Omilami, and Griff Furst. Though not a success in theatrical release, “The Founder” from FilmNation Entertainment and The Weinstein Company is watchable viewing on DVD these days.
