LucasFilm has come out with the first “stand alone” “Star Wars” movie and it is a big hit with critics and the general public alike. “Rogue One” is the story of the daughter of the designer of the Death Star and her search to find the plans so she can deliver them to the Rebel Alliance. The film earned some $290 million in global ticket sales the first weekend of its release, and over one billion dollars overall since then.
Producer Kathy Kennedy (president of LucasFilm), director Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla” 2014), and screenwriters Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy beautifully executed this project which seems to fit in between episodes three and four. There are 134 minutes of action and adventure to keep “Star Wars” fans occupied and happy while munching on popcorn or whatever during the film.
The cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker. Reprising old roles are James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader), Jimmy Smits (Bail Organa), Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Jimmy Vee (uncredited as R2-D2). The digital images of Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing are used for Princess Leia Organa and Governor Tarkin, respectively.
“Rogue One” is top rate entertainment for all members of the family to enjoy thanks to LucasFilm and Walt Disney Studios. And it was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects!
