My Review

“Ghostbusters” is an entertaining remake of the original film that was released back in 1984. This one really has nothing new except for the all female cast, and is winsome entertainment, thanks to director Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids” 2011), who co-wrote the screenplay with Katie Dippold.

Melissa McCarthy lends her popular “every-gal” persona to the lead role, with Saturday Night Live employees Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones following her every move. Others include Chris Hemsworth, Cecily Strong, Andy Garcia, Neil Casey, Charles Dance, Matt Welsh, Michael K. Williams, and Ed Begley Jr.

In a tip of the hat to the original “Ghostbusters,” producers Amy Pascal and Ivan Reitman gave cameo appearances to Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. Others doing cameos include Al Roker and Ozzy Osbourne. Another “Ghostbusters” may or may not be coming out in the future from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures, but the mediocre box office receipts did not cover production costs and advertising, making a sequel with the same cast doubtful.
