My Review

Shirley MacLaine celebrates sixty years in motion pictures with the made-for-television movie “Wild Oats.” (Her first film was Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Trouble With Harry” in 1955.) At age 82, MacLaine show only sight signs of aging as she plays a woman who flees America for the Canary Islands after cashing an insurance check of five million dollars that was supposed to be $50,000.

Director Andy Tennant (“The Bounty Hunter” 2010) and teleplay authors Gary Kanew and Claudia Myer created a glossy comedy that is well paced and a good showcase for Shirley MacLaine’s talents. Photogenic location shoots in the Canary Islands helped, as did a supporting cast that also includes Jessica Lange, Demi Moore, Billy Connolly, Howard Hesseman, Matt Walsh, Rebecca DaCosta, Santiago Segura, Stephanie Beacham, and Eileen Grubba.

“Wild Oats” was first aired on the Lifetime Channel in August, 2016, and in limited theatrical release in September of that year.
