My Review

“God’s Not Dead 2” has been released into theaters and met with mixed reviews and moderate success at the box office. This sequel to 2014’s “God’s Not Dead” is equal in quality to the original but not nearly as “ambitious,” meaning it did not have as many interwoven storylines.

The stars certainly lined up for this production. Show biz veteran Pat Boone had a small, but pivotal, role. Other actors include Melissa Joan Hart as Boone’s high school teacher granddaughter who gets into trouble with the school board for “talking religion” in the classroom, Jesse Metcalfe as her attorney, Fred Thompson as her pastor, Robin Givens as a member of the board, and Ernie Hudson as the judge.

Ray Wise was excellent as Pete Kane, the atheist prosecutor. Wise played this role to hilt, using experience as antagonists in television and film over the years, such as Vice President Gardner in “24” (2006) and the devil in “Reaper” (2007-2009). David A. R. White and Benjamin Onyango returned as Rev. Dave and Rev. Jude, respectively, with their slogan “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.”

Rounding out the cast are Hayley Orrantia, Paul Kwo, Carey Scott, and Sadie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” fame. Making cameo appearances as themselves are Mike Huckabee, Lee Strobel, and the Newsboys, singing the title song once again.

Pure Flix Entertainment, director Harold Cronk (“Jerusalem Countdown” 2011), and screenwriters Chuck Konselman and Cary Solomon all worked diligently to ensure a high quality and watchable production of “God’s Not Dead 2.”
