My Review

An indication that Hollywood has run out of ideas may be that they have produced a film that pits two of the most popular superheroes of all time against each other. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is that movie, and it suffers from a lack of focus and an extremely weak storyline. This Warner Bros. picture directed by Zach Snyder (“300” 2007) and screenwriters Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer did create enough of a spectacle with lots of action and FX to make it a watchable film and popular at the box office.

The actors deliver strong performances, especially Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” seems to be primarily a Superman vehicle, as it is a sequel to 2013’s “Man of Steel” (the film that officially started the DC Extended Universe) starring Cavill and directed by Zach Snyder. Superman’s pals also dominate the secondary roles: Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

Also appearing in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” are Jeremy Irons as Wayne’ butler, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamota, and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, someone we will see in her own movie soon. Also introduced are Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. Numerous cameo appearances are made by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Anderson Cooper, Nancy Grace, Soledad O’Brien, Charlie Rose, Dana Bash, and U. S. Senators Patrick Leahy and Debbie Stabenow. Have we forgotten anyone?
