“Hail, Caesar!” is a comedy salute to old Hollywood by Joel and Ethan Coen (“No Country For Old Men” 2007), who produced, directed, wrote the screenplay, and edited the film. This well-crafted motion picture also has elements of drama and a murder mystery and more. Worth noting is an excellent water ballet scene reminiscent of Esther Williams musicals.
The Coen brothers assembled quite a talented and diverse cast for this project, including George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Wayne Knight, Robert Picardo, Dolph Lundgren, Alden Ehrenreich, Alison Pill, Fisher Stevens, among others. “Hail, Caesar!” from Universal Pictures was a modest success in theatrical release.
