My Review

Bryan Cranston plays attorney Howard Wakefield who one day decides to vanish. leaving his wife and two teenage daughters wondering what happened. They have no idea that he is hiding in the attic above the garage, spying on them.

This improbable and implausible premise is surprisingly easy to buy into, at least early on, thanks to smooth direction by Robin Swicord, who also wrote the screenplay. She did fairly well in her directorial debut. However (spoiler alert) the film suffers a major failure due to the unresolved ending of the story.

The cast turned in good performances, with Cranston dominating most of the scenes. Jennifer Garner plays his wife, with Beverly D’Angelo, Ian Anthony Dale, Jason O’Mara, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Isaac Leyva, Tracey Walter, and Ellery Sprayberry and Victoria Bruno as the teenage daughters.

“Wakefield,” an independent production from Mockingbird Pictures and IFC Films, had limited income from the box office due to this being a typical “art house” cinema picture. “Wakefield” is an acquired taste, definitely not for everyone.
