“Live by Night” is a crime drama about an Irish-American gangster who makes loads of money during the Prohibition Era and problems he gets into along the way. Producer-director-screenwriter-star Ben Affleck adapted this project from Dennis Lehane’s 2012 novel of the same name.
Affleck took great care in developing the film with good production values and a stylish quality, but flunked in the plot department. With an uneven storyline, there was a feeling of unevenness throughout the picture. Boredom sets in early in the two hour and nine minute duration of “Live by Night.” It was a huge flop at the box office, losing tens of millions of dollars for Affleck and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The supporting cast includes Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Brendan Gleeson, Sienna Miller, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, Remo Girone, Robert Glenister, Matthew Maher, Gianfranco Terrin, and Anthony Michael Hall.
