My Review

“The Whole Truth” is a riveting crime drama about a young man on trial for murdering his father. Director Courtney Hunt (“Frozen River” 2008) and screenwriter Nicholas Kazan (son of famed movie director Elia Kazan) put together this picture that has more twists and turns than a pretzel, holding the audience’s attention to the very end.

The actors outdid themselves in this film: Keanu Reeves as the defense attorney, Gabriel Basso as the accused 17-year-old, Rene Zellweger as his mother, Jim Belushi as the murdered father (in flashbacks), Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the assistant defense attorney, Jim Klock, Christopher Berry, Dana Michelle Gourrier, and Sean Bridgers, who many remember as Johnny Burns on HBO’s “Deadwood” (2004-2006).

This independent motion picture did not do well at the box office in 2016, but makes for watchable viewing on DVD when you see and hear “The Whole Truth” from FilmNation Entertainment and Lionsgate Premiere.
