“Masterminds” is an ill-conceived comedy about the robbery of millions of dollars from a company’s vault. Terrible direction by Jared Hess (“Nacho Libre” 2006) and astonishingly poor writing by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, and Emily Spivey are typical of producer Lorne Michaels’ film projects. His success with television’s “Saturday Night Live” has never really translated to the big screen.
The cast is filled with SNL alumni and others including Zach Galifianakis, Kirsten Wiig, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Ken Marino, and Devin Ratray, well known as Buzz McCallister in “Home Alone” one and two.
Our advise: Skip the boring and unwatchable “Masterminds,” as did most of movie-going audiences, so you do not go out of your minds.
