“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” picks up right where “Shazam!” (2019) ended, with Billy Batson and his foster siblings on the move to fight Hespera and Kalypso, two daughters of Atlas, who are up to all kinds of mischief. Zachary Levi employs his usual amount of talent and charm, with the role of Billy/Shazam well within his acting range, developed on the television series “Chuck” (2007-2012), playing the show’s main character Chuck Bartowski.
Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu team up to play the villainous sisterly duo. Other cast includes Asher Angel, Grace Caroline Curry, Jack Dylan Glazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Megan Goode, and Djimon Hounsou as the original Shazam, who bestowed his powers on Billy. Gal Godot has an uncredited cameo appearance.
Director David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Henry Gayden return to give the sequel much of the flavor of the original. Chris Morgan helped out Gayden with writing duties in this project. “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is the 12th installment in the DC Extended Universe from DC Studios, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
