Actor Andy Serkis certainly has the performance capture roles down to a science. His third time out as the ape leader Caesar in “War for the Planet of the Apes” has drawn rave reviews for its sensitivity and depth. This sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ (2011) and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014) was moderately successful in theatrical release.
The film was a bit sluggish and slow-moving and a bit too long at two hours and twenty minutes, with fair direction by Matt Reeves, who was at the helm of the first two “Apes.” The screenplay was penned by Mark Bombeck and Matt Reeves. There is probably some difficulty finding new and fresh storylines for the “Planet of the Apes” franchise. The cast included Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer, and a number of others in ape roles, with Woody Harrelson, Amiah Miller, and Gabriel Chavarria as the principal humans.
“War for the Planet of the Apes” was produced by Peter Chernin for Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.
