Director Kenneth Branagh (“Thor” 2011) has a fresh new version of Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel “Murder on the Orient Express.” Modern production values, a lively screenplay by Michael Green, and a “fussy” Hercule Poirot played by Branagh make this third movie version a very watchable and entertaining motion picture. (Previous productions were out in 1974 and 2001.)
The stellar supporting cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, William Dafoe, Penelope Cruz, Derek Jacobi, Tom Bateman, Olivia Colman, and Josh Gad. The film was so successful with the public that producer Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox announced the sequel to “Murder on the Orient Express” will be released in 2019, titled “Death on the Nile.”
