My Review
“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” is an exciting science fiction film set in the 28th century, based on a French comic book series called “Valerian and Laureline.” Director-screenwriter Luc Besson filmed the picture in English and featured Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Rutger Hauer, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and John Goodman and Elizabeth Debicki in voice roles.
The real star of the show is the lavish special effects, especially on full display in 3D. The cinematography by Thierry Arbogast is simply out of this world! The independent filmmaking group headed by Besson, and his wife and producer Virginie Besson-Silla, and the EuropaCorp shelled out many Euros to pay for “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” They only made a modest profit at the world-wide box office.
