“Just Getting Started” is a predictable and formula comedy about an ex-mob lawyer and a retired FBI agent who must put aside their decades-old feud when they find themselves living in the same Palm Springs retirement community.
This picture seems to have a lot of potential, but stars Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones labor hard for laughs under the hapless writing and direction of Ron Shelton (“Bull Durham” 1988). This terrible picture wouldn’t even qualify as a sitcom pilot on cable or regular tv.
The stellar supporting cast of this independently produced movie includes Rene Russo, Joe Pantoliano, Elizabeth Ashley, George Wallace, Glenne Headly, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Johnny Mathis (in a singing cameo), and Jane Seymour playing a mobster’s wife, probably her worst role ever. “Just Getting Started” should have a label that says “Never get this DVD started,” it is that bad.
