“Last Flag Flying” is the poignant story of three Vietnam veteran friends reuniting after one of their sons is killed in the Iraq War. Director Richard Linklater (“Me and Orson Welles” 2008) expertly put together this film which looks at the effects of war from different points of view. Linklater co-wrote the screenplay with Darryl Panicson, adapted from Panicson’s 2005 novel of the same name.
The three principal actors had wonderful chemistry in this ensemble piece: Steve Carrell, Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne. Marvelous performances by all. The supporting cast includes J. Quinton Johnson, Donna Reed-Foster, Yul Vazquez, Graham Wolfe, and Cicely Tyson in a cameo appearance. “Last Flag Flying” is true story and a watchable dramatic movie from Amazon Studios and Lionsgate.
