My Review

“Where the Crawdads Sing” is an engrossing crime drama about a young woman who had been abandoned as a child to raise herself in a North Carolina swamp, only to later find that she has been accused of murder and put on trial.

Director Olivia Newman (“First Match” 2018) did an outstanding job of organizing this movie, only her second feature length motion picture. Screenwriter Lucy Alibar penned an excellent screenplay adapted from the 2008 novel by Delia Owens.

British actress Daisy Edgar-Jones pulled off the lead role with exceptional professionalism, carrying the picture with the right balance of innocence and assertiveness. Her co-stars include Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Garrett Dillahunt, Ahna O’Reilly, and David Strathairn.

“Where the Crawdads Sing” is a watchable movie and a hit at the box office, due to the aforementioned team and to producer Reese Witherspoon, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures.
