My Review

“The Day After Tomorrow” is a classic disaster film about a climatologist whose warnings about climate change go unheeded by government officials. A superstorm soon develops, creating freezing conditions across the northern hemisphere. Director Roland Emmerich (“The Patriot” 2000) put together an action-filled movie with outstanding special effects as the star of the show. The screenplay he wrote with Jeffrey Nachmanoff is a disguised discourse on climate change; the performances are at least passable.

The cast includes Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ian Holm, Sela Ward, Jay O. Sanders, Emmy Rossum, Arjay Smith, Austin Nichols, Dash Mihok, Kenneth Welsh, and Perry King as the President of the United States. If you can tolerate arrogant lectures on climate change, based on fantasy, then the watchable action picture “The Day After Tomorrow” is for you. It was a success at the box office for Lionsgate Films, The Mark Gordon Company, Centropolis Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox.
