My Review

“Dante’s Peak” is a disaster film telling the story of a scientist and a small town mayor trying to warn the citizens that the dormant volcano next door is about to blow up and they need to evacuate. The race against time is the movie’s biggest drama, along with special effects, well-executed by director Roger Donaldson (“The Bounty” 1984) from an excellent screenplay by Leslie Bohem.

The stars of the show are Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton, turning in excellent performances. Co-stars include Charles Hallahan, Grant Heslov, Tzi Ma, Elizabeth Hoffman, Jeremy Foley, Jamie Renee Smith, Arabella Field, Lee Garlington, and Bill Bolender as the Sheriff of Dante’s Peak. The very exciting and watchable “Dante’s Peak” was successful at the box office for producer Gale Ann Hurd, Pacific Western Productions, and Universal Pictures.

The movie has excellent special effects and photography, thanks to cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak. It was filmed in Washington, Idaho, and California. “Dante’s Peak” was the third collaboration between Linda Hamilton and Gale Ann Hurd, having previously worked together on “The Terminator” (1984) and “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” (1991).
