My Review

“Leave No Trace” is an independent film directed by Debra Granik (“Winter’s Bone” 2010) about a military veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder who moves from place to place with his 13-year-old daughter. Granik guided the cast to excellent performances, especially the father-daughter characters played by Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie.

This was a breakout role for young McKenzie, who previously had a small part in the third “Hobbit” film “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” in 2014. Foster is a comparative veteran of motion pictures, appearing in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006) and “Hell or High Water” (2016). Other cast members include Jeff Kober and Dale Dickey.

The screenplay was written by Granik and Anne Rosellini, adapted from Peter Rock’s 2009 novel “My Abandonment.” “Leave No Trace” is an independently produced movie, first viewed at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
